Mar Hall Hotel, Golf & Spa Resort is rich with history, it was designed in the 19th century by Sir Robert Smirke who had previously worked on the British Museum in London. Building began in 1828, where a quarry on the estate provided the stone whilst the oak used throughout was specifically imported from Canada. It was Smirke’s wish that the building resemble the manorial, domestic gothic styles seen during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the First. Construction was not completed until 1845, fifteen years after Lord Blantyre’s death with the final bill coming to over £50,000. (Nearly half a million pounds in today’s money). The result is breath taking, from the opulent décor in red and golds, to the grand rooms and stunning gothic exterior. This hotel seamlessly blends comfort with the timeless elegance of Scottish heritage. Throughout the hotel the walls are adorned with beautiful tapestries sharing days gone by.

There are plenty of places to walk around the hotel, from the banks of the River Clyde to the stunning well-kept grounds. With an impressive golf course that surrounds the grounds.
We stayed in one of the hotels stunning suites, which boast four poster beds, huge rooms, amazing views and bathtubs you won’t want to get out of. We would fully recommend a suite stay for a magical experience and a great night’s sleep.
