LONDON EVENTS – A GLAMOUROUS EVENING AT THE 2015 SCRATCH STAR AWARDS
Every year, the UK nail industry comes together at the Scratch Star Awards, which took place on 7th of June at the world famous Café de Paris in Leicester Square. Currently in it’s fourth year, the awards celebrate the achievements of the technicians, companies and salon owners of the nail industry. The awards are presented by Scratch magazine, which is the leading nail publication in the trade. It is open to any individuals or organisations in the nail business and this year’s event was bigger than ever, truly earning it’s nickname as the “Oscar’s of the Nail Industry”.
Hosted by TV Personality Gethin Jones, more than 300 attendees celebrated the talented nail technicians, salons and renowned brands in the UK. The glitz and glam of the evening continued with a photo booth, an acrobatic performance and loud music, which all added to the excitement in the air. The atmosphere truly was elating, as finalists waited eagerly in anticipation for each award to be announced.
This rapidly evolving industry is changing weekly, which is why this year saw many more categories of recognition than previously. Earning a Scratch Star is a sign of great talent and achievement. It sets these professionals apart and validates their expertise in a particular technique. This year’s level of ability was impressive to say the least. The challenges some technicians had to take part in were tough and often very complicated, but the sheer talent displayed by the finalists proved that there are many skills to be celebrated in this industry.
There were many winners on the night, but some notable awards went to Elise Scholes-Pilkington for Manicurist of the Year, Sarah Usher for Pedicurist of the Year and Anna Lee for Educator of the Year. Beauty at the Bay won Nail Salon of the Year: Salon Environment and also took home a second award for Retail Salon of the Year. The lovely Lena White was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
After the awards were presented, the event transformed into a cheerful celebration. Emotions were running high but this tight knit industry proved to be only supportive of each other. The party continued as photos were taken and congratulations were shared around. It was a fabulous night to remember and great way to recognise the hard working and talented members of this popular and ever growing industry.
