LONDON EATERIES – The sun and flavours of Greece on your plate at The Real Greek restaurant
This event was one night only, but diners can attend the restaurant and enjoy the amazing menu anytime.
When the weather is a little on the dull side, good food can make you feel as if the sun is shining and The Real Greek restaurant certainly achieves that. The restaurant is set next the Tate Modern and the Shakespeare Globe Theatre, right in the heart of London and near London Bridge tube. This central location gives you the chance to admire the beautiful city of London and enjoy a good and tasty meal.
The Real Greek, a group of nine Greek restaurants in London and Windsor teamed up exclusively for one night only with Greece’s finest chefs from Cookoovaya, one of the most talked about restaurants in Athens. The Real Greek at Bankside, the group’s flagship 170 seater location on the banks of The River Thames, brought the Cookoovaya experience to London and welcomed chefs Spyros and Vangelis Liakos, Pericles Koskinas, Nikos Karathanos and Manos Zournatzis – ten pairs of hands and eyes – to cook up ‘Wise Cuisine’, a four course gastronomic feast to excite the taste buds.
This authentic Greek restaurant was full of happy clientele and the atmosphere was electric. Blue and the white are the predominant colours of the restaurant and they help transport you from London to Athens, without even stepping a foot outside London.
The restaurant advise you to try 3 or 4 mezes per person, which you can happily share with your friends, although we were tempted by a few more than 4! Here are our favourites, from the delicious menu – The Grilled Octopus with saffron skordalia, The rooster pastitsada with crispy potato cake graviera and the Bougatsa desert.
I’m not usually a big fan of fish and seafood, but The Grilled Octopus was awesome. If you feel adventurous, you should definitely try it and the octopus certainly changed my views about fish. The Octopus is enhanced by the saffron Skordalia, a sweet sauce and welcome sauce, which ensured the fish was beautifully tasty.
The Rooster Pastitsada arrived with a perfectly crispy potato cake graviera. The crispy potato that accompanies the rooster, compliments the dish well and ensures your tastes buds are dancing with every bite.
Our grand finale was the Bougatsa desert, which you have to break before you eat. It was like pastry with cinnamon ice cream, both delicious and mouth watering.
The service was extraordinary, with friendly waiters who are quick to assist you. If you enjoy delicious food, a great atmosphere and would like to be transported to Greece for one night, The Real Greek Restaurant is the place to go.
