ESCAPE LONDON – Fall in love with glamping at Home Farm in Hertfordshire

When I hear the word camping I am likely to run a mile! Even though I love nature, the thought of camping on a hard floor in a tiny tent is not my idea of fun. However, sleeping in a comfortable bed, with a lovely duvet, in a spacious high yurt, well that is something I have been curious to try out. Home Farm in Hertfordshire run a glamping facility from April to September. With only a short 30 minute drive from London, it is perfect to pop to and enjoy nature in style.

Home Farm run a tight ship, from a friendly face on arrival, to marshmallows provided for you! The yurts are set in a stunning field, spaced perfectly away from each other, so you can enjoy some privacy. On the day we chose to glamp, the heavens opened and poured down, although this didn’t put us off, as inside the cosy tent the rain sounded beautiful. The yurt was well dressed with a pale grey chest of drawers, a huge comfortable wooden double bed and a good size day bed. As we took my little one, there was plenty of space for his travel cot too!

The facilities they provide are outstanding, blankets, much-needed umbrellas, even our own BBQ and extra blankets for cold nights. The communal barn has an open fire, plugs to charge your phone and plenty of coffee and tea.

Outside the yurt sits a lovely table and chairs, with a little fire close by. We would have loved to enjoy these facilities, but the weather wasn’t on our side. With the rain pouring down, we opened our champagne and relaxed in the comfortable environment. You can’t help but feel at home, yes, even in a tent.

The shower blocks are well kept, stylish and there are 4, which means no waiting. As the rain stopped for a minute, we got to enjoy the beauty of the fresh air. Even after being at home farm short time, we were already converts. The yurt is relaxing and perfect for a little break away from London. Glamping is the way to go, you can enjoy nature, without roughing it, which is perfection in my book.

The owner was very friendly and even helped us when we struggled to light our BBQ. Home Farn provide the coal, BBQ, cooking equipment, plates and more.

If you don’t like camping, or do and fancy something different, glamping is a must. I am officially a convert, not only was the yurt at Home Farm comfortable, it was so much fun. We had many a hearty laugh and it is perfect for families. So turn up with your food, booze and friends, then enjoy a fun filled weekend in the countryside. We can’t wait to glamp again.
