ESCAPE LONDON – A hidden gem that needs to be shared, The Faversham Hotel in Kent

Sometimes you discover a little gem of a place, where home comforts are in abundance, the food is nothing short of excellent and the service is outstanding. Getting so many important factors right isn’t an easy task, but the Faversham Creek Hotel do and do so well! The Faversham Creek Hotel is only a 90 minute drive from London, perfect to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city for a well deserved mini break.

If you have read some of our other articles, then you know we love to learn about the history of hotels and the Faversham Creek Hotel doesn’t disappoint. It was built in 1723 as a merchants house, but soon became a coal exchange. Abbey Street, which is close by is the longest medieval street in the UK and before the first world war every building was a pub or a brother. The pub was taken over and created into the welcoming, well designed hotel it is now.

The food though, oh my, oh my. Finding a place that you feel welcome, enjoy and has amazing food isn’t as easy as you may think and we may be repeating ourselves here – but the food is out of this world. I began with the steaming hot plump mussels. They tasted as if they were fresh from the sea and were delicious with the home cooked crusty bread. I arrived with my 13 month old and the hotel went out of their way to ensure we felt at home. Moving on to the main and the risotto was well balanced with fluffy rice, a creamy texture and welcome cauliflower chunks. I couldn’t manage desert, but they have some excellent choices available and I guarantee whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed.

After dinner I sat in the festive lounge and had a chat with the friendly owner. Who I might add wasn’t put off by my 13 month old who was tired and trying to pull everything off the table. The rooms are reasonable, from £90 up.

Heading to the bedroom, which boasted a stunning marble bathroom with a bath big enough for two and lovely fluffy towels. The carpet in the bedroom felt beautiful on bare feat and they prepared a lovely little cot for my little one. For coffee lovers the provide a Nespresso coffee maker and tasty treats to enjoy alongside your morning coffee.

I always wonder how staff who have worked the evening shift manage to stay just as joyful in the morning, well this can be said for the staff at the Faversham Hotel. They are friendly and really can’t do enough to help you. The breakfast was just as delightful as the dinner, I enjoyed light scrambled eggs with delicious fresh salmon and more of the home cooked crusty bread.

Can you tell we are fans of the Faversham Creek Hotel, well if you can’t, let us tell you. This lovely little hotel, is worth the drive from London. They deserve the rosettes they have been awarded, as the food is outstanding, the rooms comfortable and the service amazing. Enjoy a fabulous weekend in the country at this wonderful little hotel, a hidden gem that needs to be shared!
