LONDON EVENTS – GoBoat reopens at Paddington and Kingston

COVID-FRIENDLY BOAT TRIPS IN LONDON

Londoners can once again charter their own electric picnic boat without the need for a licence.

GoBoat is open again at Paddington and Kingston and is now taking bookings for sailing trips throughout the summer.

The perfect lockdown activity, boat trips are outdoors, socially distanced and perfectly set up for household groups and support bubbles.

Passengers can blast away their lockdown cobwebs with a Covid-friendly boat trip with their chosen crew; a maximum of eight people can board each GoBoat. Children count as part of the eight too which makes it a great family day out.

Each boat has a central table making it an ideal destination to bring a hamper and enjoy National Picnic Week (22-28June) and National Picnic Month in July.

Some changes have been made to comply with government guidelines to ensure everyone is kept safe:

  • One household or support bubble per boat (max. 8 people). Proof of address may be required
  • Every GoBoat is sanitised in-between each trip
  • Contactless payment only, booking ahead online is advised
  • New safe-distanced queuing system to keep guests apart
  • Contact-free check in at kiosk
  • New ‘Learning Zones’ to keep different groups at a safe distance

The routes take between 2 to 3 hours:

Paddington: Moored at Paddington Basin, the route follows the Regent’s Canal via Little Venice, through the 249m Maida Hill Tunnel, Regent’s Park and past London Zoo. Skippers can about turn at Camden Lock and head back to the GoBoat pontoon at Merchant Square.

Kingston: Captains will gain access to the unseen side of Kingston, chartering their own boat along the River Thames. Starting at Kingston Road Bridge, head down river to Teddington Lock and see the suspension footbridge and weir. Sail down river to Hampton Court Palace passing Raven’s Ait and Thames Ditton Island.

The ride is a casual 3 ½ knots, approximately 4mph, the perfect cruising speed for a lazy waterways journey. The boats are eco-friendly, made from 80 percent recycled plastic bottles [PET], fitted with super quiet rechargeable electric motors.

GoBoat London is open seven days a week from 9am until dusk. Prices start from £79 for one hour, trips can be booked online now at goboat.co.uk.
