LONDON EATERIES – Bar + Block in Southwark is a hidden gem
Set in a quaint spot of Southwark, Bar + Block Steakhouse is a hidden gem.
As you walk into the restaurant, the big neon cow on the wall confirms that you are there to enjoy some delicious steak. It is very spacious inside with a modern decor. The staff are incredibly friendly, and after taking you to your table, they talk you through the menu. The concept of the restaurant is based on the ever growing trend to give the consumer greater ability to personalise their dish. First you choose which steak you want, which are sourced from the UK, and just how you would like it to be cooked. Then you choose the sauce to accompany it, ranging from the classical pairings with steak to the more adventurous and unusual ones. And then finally you choose your sides. With all these options it can be difficult to decide, but the staff are on hand to recommend you ideal things to pair together.

When the food arrived at the table, it did not disappoint. To begin with we ordered a variety of starters, each influenced by different cuisines, that were great for sharing. Once we gobbled those down, we didn’t have to wait long for the main event. The steak was cooked exactly how we ordered it, and was so succulent and juicy, just as a steak should be. The collection of sides that we ordered alongside also really helped to elevate the meal further and left us wanting more, even though we were almost full! Meanwhile, it was all washed down by some delicious red wine which complimented perfectly.

Despite being sated, we were totally drawn in by the desert menu, the pinnacle of which was the “Melting Chocolate Dome”. A bit of theatre unfolded after pouring the warm chocolate sauce on the chocolate dome, revealing a delicious brownie underneath, and it all tasted just as good as it looked!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Bar + Block and are already thinking about another trip back there. The food exceeded our expectations and anyone wanting an indulgent dining experience should really pay this place a visit!
