LUXURY GETAWAYS – Where to stay and what to do on the luxurious Island of Mauritius

When planning a trip to Australia we didn’t fancy flying 26 hours and whilst Mauritius may not seem the obvious stopover it is 12 hours from London and 6 hours to Aus making it perfect! On the way there we only stayed for one day and was recommend the Preskill Island Resort as it is only 15 minutes from the airport.

Whilst the Preskill is 4 star, it could easily be a 5! From the moment you are arrive you are treated like royalty and the hotel itself is stunning. We arrived during their winter and it was literally gale force winds alongside a big thunderstorm. Even in this weather the place looked stunning! We had booked half board and love the healthy selection of delicious food on offer. Not long after arrival on both stays we received a call to check how we were doing and the wonderful service doesn’t stop there, from lovely servers to brilliant management, literally everyone is there to ensure you have a great time!

It’s the little things are the hotel that make its special, like cain juice that is served to you upon arrival, gifting kids pencil cases and flip flops and delivering delicious fresh food when we were too tired to go for dinner on the first night!

On the way from the airport we met a friendly taxi driver who recommended places to go and became our go to if we ever needed to go anywhere. We stayed on the way to and from Australia. When we returned the rain was still falling but we were treated to one beautiful day of high temperatures and beautiful skies.

Our lovely taxi driver recommended a private boat trip to see some of the islands with Pascal, who owns a luxurious speed boat and a company called Southeast Cruises. I didn’t know a whole lot about the trip apart from what was on the card and I am glad I didn’t, as boy we were in for a treat! The trip was the most magical part of our visit and something we will treasure in our memories for years to come! Whilst the price tag did put me off at first, around 200 pounds it was worth every penny and it is a private boat after all! The trip was around 6 hours and we were surprised by a tasty lunch on a private island with white sands and beautiful vegetation.

On the boat we were offered refreshments including a delicious home made juice and local rum, alongside tasty local treats. As well as upbeat music and a smiling captain!

Pascal took us to see lots of breathtaking islands, including one with a light house and through a river which is their Amazon that opened out to a beautiful waterfall! We also went snorkelling in the sea and swimming just off a little island. He made a big effort to ensure we saw some dolphins swimming, a huge turtle and we even got to feed monkey’s! They literally popped onto the boat to gently take the fruit.

Pascal really takes care to to make sure you are enjoying your trip and he even let my little one drive the boat! If you are going to do one thing on a trip to Mauritius, then take a cruise with Southeast Cruises. This trip is so well put together that is is perfect for families and also for couples enjoying a honeymoon!

Yes, we will be back to this idyllic island, to see the friendly locals and magical views that literally take your breath away!
