ESCAPE LONDON – ENJOY A STAY IN NORTH DEVON’S PREMIER BOUTIQUE HOTEL WATERSMEET

Regarded as North Devon’s premier coastal escape, with its wildly romantic views putting it in a class of its own, Watersmeet Hotel & Restaurant has now reopened for the season. The winter months have certainly been busy for this stunning Edwardian property, which saw Watersmeet add yet another trophy to its cabinet – Condé Nast Johansen’s hugely prestigious Best Waterside Hotel for UK and Ireland 2024.

Watersmeet has also enjoyed some internal refurbishment, spearheaded by the luxurious and spacious Combesgate Room with its breathtaking coastal vistas. Other highlights include the creation of a multipurpose area on the lawn for informal and formal alfresco dining and smaller wedding ceremonies and private parties.

Located on a cliff top on North Devon’s rugged Atlantic coast, between the timeless village of Mortehoe and the traditional seaside and surf spot of Woolacombe, Watersmeet Hotel overlooks Combesgate Beach. The property has its own private steps down to this sandy cove, which is perfect for bodyboarding and rock-pooling, and rarely gets crowded, even in peak season.

The 28 individually decorated bedrooms and suites combine comfort and luxury. From here, guests can take in dramatic views of the beach and rolling surf, and beyond towards Hartland Point, Baggy Point and Lundy Island.

The accommodation, like the rest of the property is contemporary and airy, with wooden
floors, driftwood lamps and Lloyd Loom chairs.

At the heart of Watersmeet is its stunning terrace spread across two levels where, weather permitting, you can enjoy lunch in the sunshine (and drink in the spectacular views at the same time), or a candle-lit dinner in the two-AA rosette Rocks Restaurant, feasting on beautifully prepared dishes featuring locally sourced ingredients from the land and sea.

Guests looking to relax are sure to embrace the hotel’s heated outdoor pool, indoor pool with hot spa and steam room. The more energetic meanwhile will quickly discover that Watersmeet is also a paradise for walkers with various National Trust coastal trails (Morte Point, Baggy Point) in the immediate vicinity. Surfing, kayaking, coasteering and horse riding are all available nearby whilst golfers can enjoy two world-class links courses within a short distance.

For those desperate to return to the coast and get their Watersmeet “fix”, the hotel is running a Spring Escape Offer from now until the end of April. Stay for three nights in a deluxe sea view room and enjoy a three-course dinner, bed and breakfast each day, complimentary Devon cream tea and use of the indoor pool.
