Tantalise your taste buds at Carom Indian restaurant in Soho, London

Carom is situated on the bustling and trendy Wardour Street in Soho, as you step off the street you are greeted with a warm glow of red.  This place is new to me, but my first visit will not be the only one!  Our friendly waiter greeted us with a smile and unlike many British restaurants gave an attentive five star service all evening.  The ambience was serene, with the slight faraway sound of upbeat music playing gently in the background, enough of a perfect pick you up on a Tuesday night!

Being a pescatarian some menus can be meat heavy, but Carom offered a lovely array of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes.  We began with the crab cakes and scallops, but were not ready for the amazing taste that tickled our taste buds.  The crab cakes were crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, although they were a bit potato heavy for me, it wasn’t enough to spoil the amazing taste.  The scallops arrived re-sealed and steamed in fresh spices in a beautiful shell, with prawn stuffed nan bread.  The scallops were beautifully cooked, plump and melted in your mouth, with the spices giving a hearty kick.  It became clear on the very first course, that Carom not only provides food to perfection but it great value for money as well.  In fact I would go as far to say, it gives 5 star food and 3 star prices and who doesn’t appreciate amazing food at great prices!

Our new favourite waiter, took the time to lay our napkins on our laps and clear the table of any crumbs after each meal.  As he was doing this it was the sizzle of our main course that really caught our attention.  I ordered salmon sizzle and my friend the Gin-Izzler (marinated chicken tikka) Although the salmon was advertised as a trio encompassing salmon, chicken and lamb, they were happily accommodating to change it to all fish for me with no fuss When the mains arrived the sizzling chicken was set into a beautiful, theatrical ball of flames before our very eyes.  For side dishes we ordered Raita (greek yoghurt, cucumbermint and a hint of cumin)  and the Dhuba Ssalad, which was the traditional tandoori salad accompaniment, but here, chopped dressed and tossed.  Most  importantly, the taste of the main courses were perfect.  The colours of the food were vibrant, the portions more than generous and presentation immaculate.  There is a propensity to overcook chicken when grilled in this way, but this chicken was tender, well seasoned, moist on the inside, with a spice coating, almost crunchy to complement the succulence of the chicken.  The salmon was simply mouth watering.

The desert was too tempting to miss and did not disappoint.  The contract between the light fruity deserts and the zesty aromatic flavours that had gone before gave a perfect balance to the palate.  The white chocolate and cardamom mouse was pure delight and pistachio Kulfi ice cream a welcome treat.  The only thing I would say is that some of seating looked a little like it was out of a 60’s diner, but I am really picking at straws as Carom provided an amazing meal and the perfect night out.
