LONDON EATERIES – Mayfair Pizza Co. London’s hidden gem
Just off Mayfair’s New Bond Street where designer shops are bountiful, there is an almost hidden little path named Lancashire Court which leads to to one of the cutest, vibrant and buzzing little Victorian paths in London. Turning the corner into the path one is hit with an electric vibe from the crowd of Londoner’s sitting outside and enjoying the summer night air with friends. It can certainly be said London’s pretty people have managed to find their way to this special place and were out in full force.

Mayfair Pizza Co. is situated above the Cartizze bar and up a curved, beautiful and wooden staircase. The restaurant is blessed with elongated walls, a monumental glass ceiling and an impressive wall of the finest wine. The kitchen is open, the Italian chefs are hard at work and the aroma of delicate cuisine fills the air. This beautiful building has a relaxed and homely feel, welcome after a hard week of city work. The comfortable chairs are velvet with a mini arm chair feel, the bay windows let in a pleasing breeze and the murmur of happy voices can be heard below.

We were greeted immediately and seated next to one of the said windows, on which sat a beautiful white lantern. It was perfect seating to take in the view of this wonderful restaurant. The floors were wooden, the venue classy, the staff plentiful and first impressions were definitely pleasing. If an Italian feel is what the designers were going for, they certainly hit their mark.

The menu had an abundance of wonderful choice, to start we opted for the Sardinian Crisp Bread appetizer, with Bruschetta and Grilled King Prawns. The Sardinian Crisp Bread was paired with anchovy, caper and tomato salsa. This was a great choice to open the palate, the anchovy provided a depth of flavour and an unusual but welcome mix, while the crisp bread was perfectly toasted. Bruschetta followed and was a delightful taste of fresh tomato, moist crisp focaccia, basil, onion and olive oil. The bread was a little too chunky for my liking, but the taste divine. We also opted for the the recommended special for the day, beautifully Grilled Garlic King Prawns served on a bed of radicchio. The prawns were cooked to perfection and were an amazing start to a perfect meal.
For the main we both opted for the Seabream with potato, capers and tomato. Our waitress was very amiable when we asked for a vegetable replacement for the potato and were offered courgette instead. As the dish arrived it was immediately pleasing to the eye, with the array of colourful vegetables laid under the mouth watering crisp fish. The chargrilled vegetables provided a burst of flavour and completed the fish wonderfully. This restaurant may be known for it’s pizza, but this fish really is a must try as it can only be described as heaven on a plate.

The clientele of this hidden treasure were mixed with families earlier in the evening and as darkness fell stylish hipsters. You could not help but notice the beautiful aroma that filled the air and it was a welcome treat to be served by Italian natives. We decided against desert, but were sent over complimentary Limoncello. As a finishing touch to a perfect meal, we ended with Martini Espresso Cocktails. If we could not expect the evening to get any better, Max the manager popped by to say hello. He certainly knows how to make you feel welcome and took the time to visit guests on every table.
Not only is The Mayfair Pizza Co. a hidden gem, the food is simply amazing, the decor superb and certainly one of Heart London Magazine’s top five restaurants in London.
