LONDON BARS – The Icon Balcony Bar; the best bar in Leicester Square

The Icon Balcony bar is situated in the heart of Leicester Square, just above the Empire Casino. Hence the name the bar has a spacious balcony, which provides a wonderful view of the square. As you step into the bar you are welcomed with antique wallpaper, striking Chandeliers, crimson furnishings and a big smile from the bar tender.

I was extremely impressed by the bar tender David, who was very pleasant and attentive and made us feel very welcome. He knew everything there was to know about each drink on the menu as well as having great knowledge of cocktails off the menu too. After being seated on the balcony, we ordered our first cocktails the ‘Kiwi Splash’ which is actually David’s own creation. It was a mix of Kiwi, mint, cucumber and Hendrick Gin; a delightfully refreshing, subtle and easy to drink cocktail. This beautifully presented drink takes you a tasteful journey; it starts off slow and sweet with the occasional remnant of crushed kiwi, then the taste sharpens for a moment with the bitterness of the Gin and mint. This wonderful fusion was priced at only £9.45 (with the average price of other cocktails being £8.50), which I would say was extremely good value for money, given the quality of the cocktail. I would happily pay significantly more money and not feel short changed. Other drinks we enjoyed included a Lychee martini, Pineapple and black pepper margarita, the Icon and the Elderflower martini, all of which were also exceptional cocktails that were executed well.

When I visited the bar, it was raining so sitting on the balcony we got a fantastic view of the square – without getting wet – however given the weather was better I imagine the serene atmosphere wouldn’t have been so prominent.

The Icon Bar makes for an enjoyable and casual evening, the perfect complement to a social night out with friends! One of the best bars in Leicester Square for sure!
