LONDON EATERIES – Gallery Mess, splendour and class right in the heart of Chelsea
Gallery Mess restaurant is attached to the Saatchi Gallery, the restaurant is set in a beautiful square of quaint shops right behind Chelsea’s trendy Kings Road. As soon as you enter the square you are greeted with a beautiful sight, the front of Gallery Mess is set in a beautiful red brick arch with pretty flowers caressing each side of the entrance.
The restaurant is simply stunning, high arches, tall ceilings and welcome arched glass windows which open to a view of the stunning gardens of the Saatchi Gallery. The building has an interesting history, in the 60’s it was home to the army, the ‘mess’ was where they ate and the gallery where they slept. It is all that encompasses London at it’s best, beauty, exquisite design and an interesting building history. I always find it exciting to know how buildings have evolved and what they have been used for over the years, we are certainly spoilt with London’s rich history!

The restaurant interior is pleasing to the eye, giving a classy and refined feel, nice crisp white table cloths adorn the tables and comfortable white chairs surround them. It is hard not to fall in love with Gallery Mess and it certainly is a wonderful setting for a romantic dinner with someone special. The staff at the restaurant are very attentive, so after a hard weeks work a well made cocktail was more than welcome. It actually has to be said the cocktails at Gallery Mess are perfectly made, we opted for a classic Cosmo and an Espresso Martini, both were heavenly. The atmosphere is buzzing, with well dressed and trendy clientele enjoying the evening at this one of a kind restaurant.

We began with Rock Oysters and fresh Prawns, the Oysters were large, succulent and delicious, I would even go as far to to say they are the best Oysters in London! The prawns were also delicious and pre-peeled which made them easy to enjoy without the fuss. Gallery Mess is a perfect after shopping destination. While eating our starter the waiter brought out our main, but happily returned it when he realised we were not quite ready. Sadly when he brought it was back it was cold, but it was taken back to the kitchen without a fuss. Meanwhile the chips we ordered were delicious and fluffy and the Lobster well cooked and tasty. The Lobster and Cesar salad provide a perfect combination of a healthy meal, with plenty of taste to keep your tastebuds tantalised. When the steak was replaced it was cooked to perfection, a well cooked and juicy peace of quality meat. The little blunder was quickly fixed and the food at Gallery Mess is quite mouth watering.

We ended the evening with a stunning selection of cheese, the presentation was excellent and the well rounded cheeseboard was paired with smoked chutney. If you are shopping in Chelsea, need the perfect week day pick me up or would love a romantic meal in beautiful surroundings then Gallery Mess is the one for you!
