ESCAPE LONDON – Panoramic views and exquisite food, at Alfresco’s Brighton

christmas-lightsimages-2Call me old fashioned but there is still a part of me that if I eat in Italian restaurant I like to encounter an Italian waiter/waitress/server. Alfrescos here in my home town of Brighton does not let me down, from the first ‘Buongiorno’ to the last ‘Ciao’ it’s enchanting. Situated in a perfect nigh on beach position on the main sea front road this circular building is eye catching and appealing from the out set.

We were meeting a dear friend of ours for lunch sadly however the weather was against us and it was raining heavily.  The ambience has a great balance and the service and excellent, swift yet demure.  The views as you can imagine can be spectacular and we have dined on the terraces here in brilliant sunshine quaffing bottle after bottle of good Champagne.

Deciding to pass on starters we headed straight into an Aubergine Parmigiana, slices of fresh aubergines with fresh basil and buffalo mozzarella. A Pan fried organic fillet of Salmon with kimichi marinade served with curly kale and sautéed potatoes was perfect as was the pan fried fresh supreme of chicken breast which should have been filled with Kalamta olives, however my much beloved is not that keen so the olives were removed and I enjoyed a slow cooked, very generous lamb shank served with a beetroot potato champ and honey glazed vegetables.

With clear minimal table decoration and the food served simply on white crockery everything looked super gorgeous and from our nigh on clear plates the proof was there to that of a good meal. Our champagne was topped when you suddenly thought you needed a top up, the banter kept to a minimal but always welcome.  We finished with a trio of exceptionally divine desserts before braving ourselves and braving the rain to waiting taxis.

Average cost per head £30-£40

This was rated one of THE top restaurants in Brighton in 2013 and a Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor.
