LONDON EATERIES – Cityhawk, the new app that takes the stress out of booking a table
There are a few chores that I really dislike doing, Dishes, Ironing and being left to choose and make a restaurant reservation of my choice, rate high on my list. With a heavy heart last Friday I was left to do the latter. No pressure especially when friend works for one of the most difficult michelin starred restaurants in London to get a table at. On a tip off from #heartlondon I turned to the Cityhawk App to book a last minute lunch. I was keen to impress, failure was not a option. I needed a booking somewhere smart and somewhere NOW.
I was attracted to the Cityhawk app immediately, its claims to give you access to over 800 restaurants in London in LIVE time is true to its word. Our destination was soho and as a ex pa in media based in SOHO i use to dread every Friday the obligatory “Andy I need a table for lunch today, MAKE IT HAPPEN!! So to say I was pleasantly surprised when i logged in at 10 am and typed Soho from the comfort of my bed is an understatement. I wasn’t really expecting much to be honest as I am one that knows the smug tone in a receptionists voice “ no madame we are fully booked for lunch” translates to.. “you are joking, we have been booked solid for a month and no there isn’t waiting list”
So after flicking through a great selection of Cityhawk approved restaurants I made my booking, basically my infant son could have done this blind folded. It took 3 clicks, then I had the option to text my dear friend the booking details, a map also could be accessed with directions. I needed to let the restaurant know that I was going to be arriving with a pram so they could hide us away if they wished, I just called the restaurant from the app, no googling for a contact number, was i dreaming??? These guys have really thought of everything. You can set your profile to Veggie or Vegan and I hear along the grape vine that a gluten free option will be available soon also.
Our lunch was impeccable, the service brilliant, (testament to city hawk only taking on restaurants that deliver the goods) we were greeted by name at the door.. I put this down to me giving them the heads up about the buggy, we had a chance to rate the restaurant afterwards, totally worthwhile as it fine tunes your likes and dislikes for future bookings.
The best bits:
The App uses your location so will tell you how long the walk is from your current location
Each restaurant listed in your preferred location lists photos, sample menus, if a promotion is available and quick reviews from a previous customers
It only shows you restaurants that can confirm immediately and spares you from any embarrassing conversations with snotty booking staff.
The not so best bits:
Not all of my favourite restaurants have signed up yet. This makes reservations all the more painful as I now know how easy it can be.
I actually really don’t have a bad thing to say about this app. Im not really a app person so with this in mind I will need to remind myself to use it but this is no hardship if it continues to make restaurant bookings so pain free.
Cityhawk obviously take what they do very seriously and this no nonsense easy to use App is perfect for anyone that wants to put all of their efforts into enjoying the actual meal rather than the planning.
