Dane Baptiste brings his critically acclaimed debut stand up hour ‘Citizen Dane’ to London for a limited run at Soho Theatre. Nominated for the prestigious Foster’s Newcomer award at 2014’s Edinburgh Fringe, ‘Citizen Dane’ garnered phenomenal reviews becoming one of the must-see shows of the year. Now Londoners get the chance to see the “comical genius” (Edinburgh Festival Mag) in action as Baptiste lives up to the name he has fast built himself as one of the most exciting acts to break in years.

“His debut is slick and classy, sure to make waves” Chortle

The first Black Briton to be nominated for the Foster’s award, Baptiste has previously gained notable success in numerous comedy competitions, becoming a regular at some of the country’s most famous venues and chocking up TV appearances including BBC3, Comedy Central and BBC Radio 1 and Radio 4.

“Observational Comedy at it’s finest” The Independent

Original and provocative, Baptiste delves into his upbringing and early life and his overwhelming sense that he doesn’t fit in. As the son of Caribbean immigrants who navigated the North/South divide before puberty, Dane’s had a lifetime trying to find a place in society amongst gangs, grammar schooling and strict parenting. He also has a twin sister…the evil twin. His younger years were riddled with split birthdays, split presents and all round split attention. In this show the original and provocative rising star asks; is there a place for Citizen Dane? This is a beautifully crafted modern day take on young black Britain.

“That this is his first solo Edinburgh show is quite remarkable” Broadway Baby

South East London born Dane burst onto the stand up circuit rising quickly up the ranks and currently stands as one of the only comics in the UK achieving notable success on both mainstream and black comedy circuits simultaneously.

Dane is known for his distinctive stage persona, his brilliant take on all of life’s irritations and his phenomenal gift to tame some of the most difficult of crowds. Exceptionally prolific, expect razor sharp rants and slick musings.

He has already appeared on Seann Walsh’s Comedy Spectacular (BBC3), Live from The Comedy Store (Comedy Central) and the Comedy Marathon (BBC3). His radio credits include

Radio 1: Live from the Fringe as well as Phil and Alice Comedy Loz. Writing credits include The Johnny and Inel Show Series 2 (with his own recurring sketch strand) & The Johnny and Ine Show Series 1 (Nominated for 2 RTS Awards).
