ESCAPE LONDON – The Greenway Hotel and Spa in Cheltenham, a stunning English country manor
The exterior of the Greenway Hotel is breathtaking, a beautiful English country manor set just below rolling hills. However, the visual treats of this beautiful hotel only just begin when you stare in awe at the beauty of the buildings exterior. As you step into the reception it is not just the friendly receptionist that makes you feel welcome, the stunning reception room has a real open fire to greet, deliciously comfortable sofas and stunning décor.

Our encounter with the amazing staff at the Greenway Hotel and Spa had only just begun, as the porter was outstanding. He took the time to show us round the hotel, to the restaurant, past the tempting spa and to our amazing room. The bedroom was divine and saying the size was generous is an understatement. The luxurious and heavenly bed was adorned with a beautiful red tartan cover, the soft carpet was also tartan, next to the bed sat two lovely black nightstands and the wallpaper was covered with racing horses. The room had a perfect mix of old and new and the lounge area shared beautiful black sofas. A Nespresso coffee maker was also hidden in the cupboard, with slippers and a cute tea box with fresh biscuits.
Our next encounter with the amazing staff at the Greenway Hotel and Spa had only just begun, as the porter was outstanding.
Our visual treats however, were far from over, as the pièce de résistance was the beautiful bathroom. Lovely fluffy towels hung from the shiny silver radiator, a lovely tempting deep bath sat next to a double shower (yes perfect for two) and two spacious sinks crowned the room, with a huge mirror. The décor had a relaxed feel, the floor was heated and fluffy white robes hung on the door.
After a good nights sleep with the welcome black out curtains, we opened them to enjoy the beautiful vision of rolling countryside with lovely fresh dew on the grass. Horses were grazing in the background and birds were chirping happily, it did not matter that it was raining, as the view was simply stunning.
Heading for breakfast, the room was as grand as the rest of the building. The breakfast times are reasonable, when you want to spend a weekend relaxing an 8am breakfast start defeats the object, but the Greenway’s weekend breakfast period is a perfect 8-10am. In the breakfast room sits a large open fireplace, oak paneling with modern wallpaper, high ceilings and large Elizabethan windows. This stunning country hotel exudes class and the designer must be commended for marrying old and new décor beautifully. The manor holds 21 rooms and for a smaller size hotel they provide an abundance of staff. They all have positive and friendly attitudes, which certainly makes you feel well looked after and special every step of the way. They provide an excellent breakfast menu, with an abundance of cooked and continental choices. We opted for the vegetarian English breakfast and were not disappointed, the scrambled eggs were fluffy, the toast perfectly browned and the vegetarian sausage crisp.

The spa has an excellent selection of treatments that are reasonably priced, the only thing you may have trouble with at this stunning hotel is choosing which treatment you would like. They even have a list of special treatments for men, perfect for a romantic weekend with your loved one. As you wait in reception to be collected for your treatment, you are able to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The stunning veranda offers a large and tempting Jacuzzi, an outside fireplace, lavender lounge seating and lovely stone walls.
For my treatment I opted for the full body scrub with lemon grass, my friendly therapist Lizzie was sure to provide me with an invigorating scrub. The lemon grass smelled divine, after my 30 minutes scrub, I stepped in the shower, my skin was left feeling soft and smelling divine. Not only are the treatments at the Greenway Hotel A-class, every aspect of this stunning spa has been well thought out. Reclining lounge chairs lay next to the hydra pool and an array of magazines are provided for those in the mood for reading. The building encompassing that hydro pool is equally well designed and has a welcome relaxed feel. The steam room is also stunning with sparkly mosaic tiles and a star lit ceiling, perfect room for some ‘me time’ and R&R.

Between the hydropool and the thermal suites a rainforest shower sits, with full effects of thunder, lightening and warm rain, as the storm passes you can even hear the gentle twitter of birds. You can enjoy having your senses being engaged as your mind drifts off to Caribbean land. If you are brave enough and want to be truly refreshed, you can partake in the cold storm too.
After a day of delights and a quick trip to the beautiful city of Cheltenham, we dressed for dinner. Arsen the manager is very attentive and the service he provides is nothing short of excellent. The sundried focaccia bread was tasty and fresh, they also surprised us with a lovely parmesan brulee which was light, refreshing and whipped. For starter we opted for the aubergine, the vegetables were fresh, but it tasted a little like pickled vegetable and was not quite up to the standard of the rest of the amazing food we had experienced at the Greenway. Sadly the main course, an array of vegetable was the same, it was quite bland and looked exactly like the starter. I do feel however, that this may be because we had opted for the vegetarian choices, as the breakfast was delicious and looking around the meat dishes seemed superb. However, where the main course lacked the beautiful cheese plate certainly made up for it. Delicious cheeses adorned the plate and were perfect to tantalise the tastebuds, adding a lovely end to the meal.
The Greenway Hotel and Spa in Cheltenham is out of this world, perfect for a relaxing weekend, a romantic weekend, a mother and daughter weekend or a fun weekend away with the girls. The spa is not only beautiful, the treatments are amazing and the décor is simply divine. You can not help feel special with the top class service provided at this wonderful country hotel, come rain or shine a visit to this amazing hotel will be remembered for a lifetime.
