ESCAPE LONDON – Fall in love with Rockliffe Hall Hotel and Spa, County Durham
Rockliffe Hall is a two and a half hour train ride from London and about a four hour drive, do not let the drive put you off though as it is worth every second when you set eyes on the stunning building of Rockliffe Hall. The view is as exciting as the history it boasts, monks used to live at the hall and it still holds a magical feeling throughout the beautiful building. The halls are set in well-kept grounds, also beside a golf course.

All the staff at the hotel are welcoming, they take pride in their work and are happy to share the love they have for this charming place. Each and every person who works at the Hall take the time to ensure you feel special, welcome and very spoilt! The reception is stunning and modern, will tall ceilings, an eye catching glass chandelier and an open fireplace. It is also where the designer cleverly joined the old and new buildings, what is really fascinating is the bell which hangs high in the ceiling, from the old exterior wall and this beautiful bell was used in the past to call the monks who used to live there. Whether you are a fan of modern décor or historical buildings, you are sure to fall in love with this hotel, as it certainly caters to both tastes.

The bedrooms are huge, very well designed in warm browns and creams, with ultra modern technology, including a headboard complete with changeable lights to suit your mood. From the press off a button and not even leaving the bed you can switch on or off the lights in any room. Comfortable sofas and a luxurious large bed call your name. The bathroom continues the modern and luxurious theme, two sinks share a large mirror and the towels are fluffy. At the end of the bath sits a TV, perfect to lounge in those bubbles and keep entertained. Along with a beautiful deep bath, a huge walk in shower is available, pure modern luxury every step of the way. Bathrobes and slippers lay in the wardrobe, with a shoe mitt and shoehorn for those who require them.

The spa offers fantastic and varied treatments, with experienced and welcoming therapists. As you step into the spa, you become engaged with the beautiful smells that waft in the air. Like the rest of the building, the spa is well kept, modern and beautiful. At my spa treatment, my lovely therapist Michelle took the time to make me feel welcome and explained the treatment. The spa housed a beautiful floor or sparkling stone, perfectly dimmed lights and comfortable gold chairs. The lights were dimmed suitably and relaxing music played in the background.
I opted for the body bliss treatment, a relaxing back and head massage with hot poultices. The treatment provide to be extremely relaxing, it began with a head and shoulder massage, moving on to the bed for a feet and calf massage. Then to a lovely deep back massage, where the therapist managed to squeeze out every knot that my back was hiding. After the treatment I was led into the sleeping room, where comfortable massage chairs were waiting and adorned with fluffy blankets. The room was in a Moroccan style, with stunning roman pillars, soft music and splashes of gold curtains.

The gym and spa changing rooms are spacious and well equipped with ample towels, cleansers, toners, hair sprays and more. The pool is large and surrounded with relaxing recliner seats. The hydro pool is surrounded with beautiful spa rooms including the Tropocarium, a pretty blue igloo room to cool you down and the Tepadarium room with warm body shaped beds. The spa also shares a hot and cold shower with pretty shimmery mosaic tiles and red halogen lights. My favourite, the steam room is also decorated with pretty in a Moroccan theme. Pretty interchanging coloured ceiling lights look like stars in the night. The gym is well equipped, perfect for gym bunnies or those taking a healthy break.
After a workout and a blissful day in the spa, we headed down to the Orangery for dinner. The restaurant certainly has the wow factor, the breathtaking glass ceilings are framed by green window frames and gothic columns. The room displays beautiful Victorian glamour at its best. The stunning décor is romantic, with dimmed lighting, beautiful piano music and excellent service. My guest asked for chicken, which was not on the menu and the chef was kind enough to make it for her. The food is outstanding and enhances the unforgettable experience Rockliffe provides.

Post dinner a lovely selection of drawing rooms await for you to retire to, all with varying renaissance style, from cream to splashes of vibrant reds. The new building is cleverly attached to the old. I am a lover of old buildings, but the new is equally as luxurious and impressive.
