LONDON EATERIES – Mind-blowing White Chocolate Cheesecake at Balans Soho Society, Westfield London
Walking through Westfield Shopping Centre, you could see a clear division: on the left was the shopping mall with beautiful shop windows, and on the right many different types of restaurants with various specialties. I was going for Balans Soho Society, with a diverse menu and great cocktails, and I am certain that I have made the right choice going there! Coming in, my friend and I were welcomed by a lovely hostess, who directed us to our waiter of the night. A very friendly, very helpful man named Tom. Who, after guiding us to our table, pointed out to us that we still had 2 minutes left to get two cocktails for the price of one, something every girl should know of course. Although we were very keen on getting a cocktail, we decided to get a glass of chardonnay first.
Looking at the menu I had so many delicious choices that I needed some help. Our waiter pointed out that the Duck Spring Rolls and Chicken Thrice-Fried were ‘to die for’, so we decided to order both and share our starters. The Duck Spring Rolls were actually to die for, perfectly combined with a Hoi Sin sauce. Although the Thrice-Fried Chicken was delightful too, my choice next time will definitely be to not share my spring rolls!
After the starter, which was very fulfilling, we had to make the next tough choice: our main meal. This is an important decision because it is the main purpose of going to dinner. Starters are just to whet your appetite, and everybody knows that desert has a separate stomach, so you do not have to worry about that. After consoling with our waiter once again, I decided to have the Pulled Pork Wrap with bourbon flamed barbeque sauce, apple slaw and triple cooked chips. My friend decided on the special of that week: Pork Belly in red wine jus and mashed potato.
I can only account for my dish, and I must say it was exactly the right combination of slaw, pork and sauce. As I sliced my two huge wraps, filled from top to bottom with the pork and slaw, I knew I made the right the decision in coming here and getting this mouth-watering dish, because it filled my stomach with utter deliciousness. After this main meal, Tom insisted on getting us his favorite cocktail: The Porn Star, made of Absolute Blue, vanilla syrup, passion fruit purée accompanied by a champagne shot. When The Porn Star arrived at my table I was a little surprised, was I supposed to shot it, or put it in the glass? My waiter told me it was all up to me and I decided to put it in my drink, because shotting champagne does not feel very luxurious to me. The drink had a great blend between alcohol and non-alcohol, however it could have been a little bit stronger, because I like my drinks strong and with a kick.

Now it was time for the dessert, my not-so-secret favorite part of every meal. This time I did not need to ask for the waiter’s advice because as soon as I saw the menu, I knew what I wanted: the White Chocolate Cheesecake. My friend also chose this dessert, even though we wanted to try as much different food as possible, but the cheesecake was just too hard to resist. Too intoxicated with the taste of this amazing dessert, we were not able to speak for the first five minutes after its arrival. And let me tell you something, we are normally two very chatty ladies, who cannot even stop speaking if we have food in our mouths. But this time I could just make moaning and grunting noises, because it was just that delicious.

Overall the experience was very good, the food was well put together, the combination and amount of ingredients just enough and very well prepared. The waiter and other employees were very friendly and never too busy to help us choose our meal. The restaurant was clean, busy but not too crowded and had a nice atmosphere. Couples eating a romantic dinner in the corner, people drinking Porn Stars outside on a heated terrace and friends having a great time eating at Balans Soho Society. Next time I go there, I do not need the waiter anymore to make a choice about my meal, I already know what I want!
