COCKTAILS – Hendrick’s Gin presents new cocktails for world Gin day
Renowned author Samuel Johnson once wrote, “A cucumber should be well sliced, dressed with pepper and vinegar, and then thrown out as good for nothing”. While we bow to Mr Johnson’s literary prowess, we must whole-heartedly disagree with him. The humble Cucumis Sativus is one of the two charming infusions that give Hendrick’s Gin its delightfully floral aroma and unusual taste, and this June, on National Cucumber Day (15th June), we are celebrating this marvelous fruit (yes, it’s a fruit!) for the champion it is.
But that is not the only good news dear comrades! As if a dedicated day in honor of the cucumber was not enough, by happy coincidence the festivity falls within the same week as another most esteemed occurrence – World Gin Day. In celebration of these two most revered occasions, we have teamed up with some of our dearest chums from London’s leading cocktail bars, to create three charming tipples to hero the aforementioned cylindrical gourd and our unusual juniper elixir.
From the curious ‘Cucumber Blessing’ created by the team at White Lyan and made with rice, chicken bone tincture and pineapple, to the stimulating taste of the ‘Limon-ethe’ served with a Branca Manca inflused cucumber at Purl London and the refreshingly classic ‘Cucumber Sour’ with cucumber sugar and fresh yuzu juice created by The Clove Club, there is something to suit every taste. Join us for a cocktail at one of these most magnificent bars, available from the 12th June for the week of World Gin Day and National Cucumber Day, as we raise a glass and toast the marriage of two distinct and delightful flavours – cucumber and juniper – long may it continue!
For those looking to celebrate the occasion at home, why not enjoy a Hendrick’s and Tonic, garnished with three thin slices of cucumber.
