EATERIES – MEATliquor from London to Singapore

ShrimpFrom a car park in South London to Singapore, founders of MEATliquor, Scott Collins and Yianni Papoutsis open their first outpost outside the UK, as part of their international expansion of the brand.  Famous for its street food, the trading post of Singapore was chosen over many global offers.  The 100-seater site opens today in the heart of Duxton Village.

An institution for liquor and laughs, MEATliquor SINgapore, a joint venture with Jacques Dejardin’s The Blind Group that currently operates Oxwell & Co and Operation Dagger will offer the pinnacle of adventure. Bringing tried and tested classics from the UK, favourites including The Dead Hippie, Dirty Chicken Burger, Deep-Fried Pickles and Chili Cheese Fries will cross the border and embark on a transoceanic voyage. The evolving localised menu will also feature a mix of brand new dishes including Sambal Wings, Sambal Fries, Buffalo Shrimp and Gunpowder Shrimp – available across UK sites this month.

Shaking up the drinks menu choose from MEATliquor classics including the Lagerita Slushy, New Cross Negroni, alongside new creations the Duxton Fizz, Charrito Negro and GibSIN Martini. Or, try beers on tap served in sharing growlers or pints, an extensive variety of bottled beers from around the world that will be changed regularly, floats, ciders and wines.

Continuing the duo’s theme known for its bold interiors, each borne of location – MEATliquor SINgapore, is again designed by Shed and carries on the tradition with a space full of theatricality; interior themes reference the maritime heritage and culture of the local area.  Set across four shophouses, the exterior spills a red seedy glow whilst inside expect mind-washing lyrics of drunken sailors and flirty sea-maidens scribed across the ceiling, floor and walls.  Housing a map room, step through the red glare of the abattoir curtains and take a seat at the captain’s table as you sip on a cocktail from the world globe drinks cabinet.

Commenting on the opening, MEATliquor founders Scott Collins and Yianni Papoutsis said: “The airport code of SIN alone suggested this might be the place for us.  As fans of the city, we’re excited to open our first international outpost in Singapore.”

Jacques Dejardin, Managing Director of The Blind Group added: “We can’t wait to introduce Singapore’s community of food lovers and globetrotters to all that MEATliquor has to offer. We have been fans of everything MEATliquor has done in the UK, this will be a first ever, very different new addition to the Singapore food scene.”

MEATliquor SINgapore is located at 99 Duxton Road S089543. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 5pm to late.
