ESCAPE LONDON – Spoil yourself rotten at the Swan Hotel in Lavenham
The stunning Tudor building is set in Lavenham, a pretty village noted for its 15th-century church, half-timbered medieval cottages and circular walk. In the medieval period it was among the 20 wealthiest settlements in England.
Stepping inside the entrance you are immediately transported back in time, with beautiful stone flooring and an eye catching iron chandelier that crowns the entrance. The bedroom is spacious, with a beautiful oak bolster in the middle of the room. The ceiling shares old beams typical of Tudor buildings and a pretty brick wall makes the room look authentic. Topping all the beauty is the calming feel the room exudes, miles away from the hustle and bustle of London.

The bathroom is modern and clean, with beautiful fluffy towels and a great selection of generously sized bathroom products. The beds do not disappoint either, they are on the right side of firm, with luxurious bedding that is soft to the touch.
As you walk the stone hallways, you can’t help but be impressed by the beautiful wooden beams and artifacts, old spinning wheels take you mind back to those who may of walked the very same hallway, many years ago.
The spa is equally stunning and the entrance is in keeping with the Tudor theme. When inside you are delighted with the beautiful smells that waft through the air. The changing rooms are elegant and simple, with cream stone floors, modern lighting and fluffy slippers and dressing gowns for you to slip into.
The spa lounge is inviting, with a comfortable cream sofa and aqua cushions perfect for the start of your journey into relaxation. Outside birds chirp happily above the wonderful patio, cream Rattan furniture is scattered around the Jacuzzi and beautiful round hedges are planted in clay pots, adding some welcome greenery.
The spa rooms are simple, elegant and peaceful. The beds have thermal mattresses filled with water, that is heated to body temperature, ensuring you melt into them the moment you lay down. All the products feel divine and you can’t help but feel like a princess as you are pampered. I chose the body scrub and got lost on the wonderful smells and gentle touch of my friendly therapist. It is clear why this spa is so busy, you leave feeling special, relaxed and happy. A nice touch is ending with a lemon sorbet and an explanation of the products used.

Heading back to the hotel for the evening, we retired to the impressive lounge area which is crowned with beautiful wooden beams and a grand painting of a lady who may of lived in the beautiful building in 1425. While sipping champagne in the lounge we were brought some appetisers to tempt our tastebuds. This stunning hotel has an extensive wine selection and the service is nothing short of excellent from start to finish.

Heading to dinner, the hall looks like an authentic medieval hall, but talking to our friendly waiter we are surprised to find out it is only 60 years old. We began with a salmon scotch egg, the beautifully crisp exterior is paired well with caviar and a welcome twist on the traditional scotch egg. For the main the beautiful halibut was crowned with well cooked leak and was just as delicious as the starter.Food at the Swan in Lavenham is simply divine, the menu has been well thought out and the dishes melt in your mouth.
The Swan at Lavenham is a welcome treat, it is close enough to London to visit for a day or the whole weekend. The service is nothing short of excellent, the food is amazing and you will fall in love with the charm that this stunning hotel exudes.
