LONDON EVENTS – Swap your ‘Dry January’ for a ‘Try January’ at Pop Brixton!

Try January at Pop!1

Swap your ‘Dry January’ for a ‘Try January’ at Pop Brixton!

January 2016: Pop Brixton is kicking off 2016 with new experiences and activities designed to help you start the year as you mean to go on.

Every January we promise ourselves a fresh start. But New Year’s Resolutions don’t have to be a boring chore. Instead of focusing on our bad habits, the best way to start the year is by trying new things and learning new skills that we might actually enjoy! Pop Brixton’s January calendar is here to inspire everyone to try something new for the New Year. From Capoeira to cooking classes; skate-parks to Supper Clubs, anyone can find something new to distract them from the January blues.

Try Wellness

So, 2016 is the year we’re going get in shape? Well if you’re looking for a more interesting way to get started – look no further. Instead of jogging in the drizzle, why not start the New Year with an introduction to Capoeira or Pilates? We’re hosting drop in sessions every Monday to learn the Brazilian martial art or reintroduce you to your core (we find it’s often misplaced over Christmas). Or, for all you aspiring yogis, join us each Thursday for Yoga sessions in the Pop Box, and bring some enlightenment back into your life.

Try Lunch

Every day our food traders serve up exciting treats from around the world. So 2016 is the year to give your sad sandwich box the bin and start actually enjoying the food you eat everyday. From Vietbox’s spicy Vietnamese salads, to fresh tacos and quesadillas from Maria Sabina; London’s best Ramen, or even some guilty pleasure from Miss P’s BBQ – see what happens when you bring a bit of flavour back into your life!

Try Supper Clubs

On Thursday 14th January, resident health foodies Homegrown will be hosting a seasonal supper club in the unique setting of Pop Box with a taster menu of fresh and healthy food. With all organic ingredients (including the beer and wine) you can treat yourself guilt-free.

By the end of January, most of us will be ready for a bit of indulgence. So on the 28th of January we will be hosting our second Pop Feast event, a collaborative supper club featuring a 6-course extravaganza, each one provided by a different trader

Try Cooking

It’s time to ditch the ready meals and expand your culinary vocabulary. Join us in January for a range of cookery workshops hosted by our master-chef traders. Whether you’re a total novice or a whizz in the kitchen, you can brush up your skills with lessons including sushi making hosted by Kyoncha, an organic “Energy Bites” workshop by Homegrown, an introduction to Vietnamese cuisine with Vietbox, or wine tasting for beginners at the New Zealand Cellar.

Try Growing

From the start of the year, we will be partnering with our friends at Urban Growth to create Pop Farm, a community garden based on our site, that will offer free workshops to the public, community group and schools. Every Staurday throughout January there will be free public workshops guaranteed to leave you with green fingers.

Try Bargain Hunting

With discounts on offer across our site, including vintage and retro inspired fashion from Make Do and Mend; eclectic clothing and accessories from Queen of the Harpies; handmade jewellery and cosmetics at CoPop, or discounted vinyl from Container Records. Pop is the place for January retail therapy with a difference.

Try Cinema

Finally, for those who just want to curl up in front of a good film – get out of the house and join us for our Pop Ritzy cinema evenings. In partnership with the Ritzy Picture House we will be hosting a series of pop-up screenings throughout 2016, and we are kicking things off with The Grand Budapest Hotel on the 24th January.
