ESCAPE LONDON – Beautiful scenery and perfect service at Hotel Felix
The Hotel Felix in Cambridge is a beautiful ninety-minute drive from the capital. As you drive off the country road you are met by the sight of a stunning country house. The exterior has the grandeur of a beautiful country home, with a newer building attached behind. The beautiful old country manor was passed through a family and changed to the Hotel Felix in 2002.
It is clear the friendly staff enjoy their jobs as they ooze charm, from the receptionists, to the management. As I am heavily pregnant I asked for extra pillows and they certainly made sure I had plenty. The bedroom was modern and spacious, decorated in a relaxing tope and brown, with an accent wall behind the impressive headboard. Home comforts are in abundance, with fluffy white dressing gowns hanging on the bathroom door, plenty of toiletries and a large deep bath, as well as a roomy shower. It is clear that this beautiful hotel is perfect for those who want to escape busy town life and relax. We especially love the heated bathroom floor, perfect for this time of year when the nights are cold.
The hotel boasts great attention to detail and a wonderful ambience. The dining room shares vibrant and decadent décor, with large beautiful windows that flood the room with light. As night falls, pink up lighting floods the walls of this eclectic room. The hotel is set in beautiful leafy gardens and combines traditional Victorian architecture with contemporary design, with a funky in-house art collection.
The restaurant staff could not have been more attentive, even obliging to make a fresh vegetarian dish that was not on the menu, for my guest. Had I not been pregnant, I would have loved to indulge in the generous wine list, which caters to every taste. I began with the tomato soup, followed by the vegetarian risotto and ended with the peace de la resistance, the blackberry cheesecake, apple sorbet with honeycomb. This delightful dish will send your taste buds into heaven, the sorbet is created from freshly pulped apples, the cheesecake, with freshly picked blackberries and the honeycomb tastes as it is fresh from the hive! All the ingredients that the Hotel Felix use are fresh and the food is second to none!
After waking up from a good nights sleep, we realised it was 10am and treated ourselves to breakfast in bed! We certainly were glad we did, as the culinary delights continued, with fluffy scrambled eggs, piping hot coffee and a tasty vegetarian breakfast.
