The Maytime Inn is a two-hour drive from London and situated in the village of Asthall, within easy striking distance of Burford, Oxford and Cheltenham as well as many other local attractions. Asthall village is a pretty hidden gem, less than half a mile off the A40.

The Maytime Inn has plenty of parking and a stunning outside courtyard, that must be buzzing with people in the summer. The building has always been an Inn and now boasts six en-suite beautifully decorated bedrooms. The Maytime Inn dates back to the 17th Century and in times gone by was a coaching inn, with its own Smithy.

The Inn has beautiful décor, with a real open fire, perfect to drink a hot toddy or mulled wine in front of, in the winter months. The wooden beams beautifully crown the ceiling and although newly refurbished, they have managed to keep the old world charm, with some modern touches.

For dinner we opted for the heritage beetroot, goats cheese and walnut salad, balsamic dressing, this dish was a good balance of sweet and salty. The tomato soup, fresh and tasty and the seared fillet of stone bass, beautifully flaky. The Inn provide an extensive menu for Gin lovers and a delightful range of deserts, for those who have a sweet tooth. All the staff at the inn are friendly and make you feel at home.

The bathroom has a lovely heated floor, is classically modern and has plenty of Cow Shed toilettes available.

The breakfast room has a stunning glass roof, which allows in floods of light and pairs well with the beautiful open brick wall and lovely wooden floor. The country tables are made from beautiful wood and there is a wonderful selection of breakfasts available, from continental to full English.
