ESCAPE LONDON – Enjoy this secret hideaway in the middle of the New Forest
There is nothing like strolling around the British countryside and taking in some fresh air, add a forest to the walk and you are in for a magical time. Watching my little one walk through a forest for the first time certainly brought big smiles to both our faces, although an abundance of wonderful green trees can be enjoyed by any age. The Balmer Lawn Hotel and Spa is situated by a lovely green, right in the middle of the New Forest.
This wonderful hotel was built in the 1800’s, originally as a hunting lodge and has been used as an army hospital in the First World War and an Army Staff College in the Second World War. The Wilson family celebrated owning the hotel in 2017 for twenty years and have worked hard to bring it back to its former story, with a well deserved 4 star rating.
For those who like to pamper, they have a beautiful spa with both outdoor and indoor swimming pools. The Saltus Spa includes treatments like facials, massage, wraps and manicures. They have special spa days, you can read here to find out more.
We stayed during a heat wave, so our room was a little hot, although it didn’t stop us having a good nights sleep and the hotel were thoughtful enough to provide a fan without us even asking. The cot they made for my little was one as comfortable as mine and included a lovely little children’s blanket. It is safe to say we both enjoyed a wonderful night in dreamland. The hotel bath was delightful, perfect for relaxing in a bubble bath and after you can wrap yourself in one of the fluffy towels provided. For pooch lovers, they even have dog friendly rooms.
Having some experience staying at different hotels, stunning hotels with wonderful service often fail at something and that is usually the food. Although rarely do the culinary delights becomes dismal, there is often something which stops the food from hitting perfection. This is not true of the The Balmer Lawn Hotel and Spa, as everything they created was a true feast for the eyes and taste buds. From the homemade bread, to the beautiful fish and delectable vegetables. If you are a foodie, this hotel is for you! Not only can you enjoy a restful nights sleep and staff that go over and above for you, but your mouth will water at the delights the chef has to offer. The restaurant has a lovely selection of wine if you fancy a tipple and an excellent selection of seasonal fresh food.
This wonderful hotel deserves Heart London Magazine’s 5 star rating, it is perfect for families, a romantic weekend, weddings and those who love to walk in the pretty English countryside. You will receive a warm homely welcome and create memories that will last forever.
