LONDON EVENTS – OSCiLLATE a ground breaking tap dance experience, choreographed by Avalon Rathgeb and Dre Torres, Darren Cheers investigates!
This coming July 24th and 25th at Sadler Wells theatre, something very special is about to premiere The world renowned tap dancers and choreographers Avalon Rathgeb ad Dre Torres have teamed up and are debuting OSCiLLATE – a rhythmic surge of communication through sound. This new innovative show is heavily influenced by original electronic dance music and its coordination between light and sound. OSCiLLATE reveals an eclectic group of individuals who come together collectively to display a range of human interaction and relationships through movement and sound. The pertinent concept of the show unveils the struggles between communication, very much a human issue, and how it can be misunderstood by each other and those watching. Expansion into group pieces will articulate all this confusion and chaos and help us to proficiency within compassion and equality,
OSCiLLATE aims to manifest these ideas and discoveries of our own personal experiences of the world in a way that audiences can relate to. On this journey, this show will make you think about the people you choose to see, to have relationships with and who we accept. It’s important for us all to identify outcomes that are not only beautiful but truthful through realisation and consciousness. The show is aimed at all ages, genders, religions, ethnicities and cultures. OSCiLLATE aims to cultivate an educational experience through dance and music while showing the form of tap dance at its prime in direct correlation with analog electronic music composed specifically for this show, these electrical currents create tone, depth and beautiful composition. A perfect match for the visual spender of the tap dancing.
Avalon Rathgeb graduated from Bird College in 2009 after studying on a 3 year full time scholarship. Since graduating she has received two internships from the American Tap Dance Foundation 2009/11, a scholarship for the Los Angeles Tap Festival 2012 and was the winner of the 2013 Stockholm Tap Festival. Career highlights including dancing in the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games and the closing ceremony of the European Games, Baku, Azerbaijan 2015. Avalon is the Artistic Director of Old Kent Road which she founded in London in 2014. Her first show “Fall Out” was accepted to perform at Resolution ion! 2015
Avalon was a company member of Grant Swift’s TeAyPe in Melbourne- Australia, was invited to join Tapestry Dance Company in 2014, North America’s only full time and paid Tap dance company. Avalon is the Artistic Director of Old Kent Road which she founded in London in 2014. Her first show ‘Fall Out’ was accepted to perform at Resolution! 2015 and premiered their first full length show in 2016. Since then they have received Arts Council England funding three times and performed at venues including DanzHaus- Germany, DanceEast, Tabernacle W11, Southbank Centre for IndiaUK17, DanceBase for Edinburgh Fringe where they received 5* reviews and ‘recommend show’.
As a solo artist Avalon frequently teaches and performs internationally for tap festivals and events including; Dubrovnik Tap Festival- Croatia, Taptastic- Germany, Stockholm Tap festival- Sweden, Prague City Tap festival – Czech Republic, Australian Tap festival, Escola Luthier Dansa- Spain, Tanzhaus- Germany, Tip-Tap- Poland, Moscato Tap Festival- Italy, Tapworks- Malaysia, Bolzano Tanz International Festival Of Dance in Italy, workshops in Singapore and she was featured in the documentary ‘Tapworld’. In the UK she has recently performed at the Harrods Boxing day opening celebration, the 1st International Chinese Film Awards and interviewed for BBC Radio London. Avalon was invited to create a show ‘K-Tap’ in Kuwait in collaboration with LAPA LOYAC. In the UK Avalon teaches at Bird College, Pineapple Dance Studios and South London Dance Studios.
So far 2018 has taken Avalon to teach and perform at Taptastic Festival in Germany, Bolzano Tanz International Festival Of Dance in Italy and Tap United in Boston, USA. Avalon has been dancing with Tapestry Dance company in Texas, USA under the direction of Acia Gray where they just performed their latest show ‘April Fools’.
Dre Torres received her Bachelor of Science degree in American Dance Pedagogy and Minor in Business Entrepreneurship from Oklahoma City University. Performances include tap dancing on The Colbert Report on Comedy Central,The Shine On Awards Show at Radio City Music Hall, Good Day Austin on FOX, The Capezio A.C.E. Awards, PBS Documentary. Dre has been on faculty and staff for The Pulse on Tour, DansEncore International Dance Festival, Soul to Sole Tap Festival, The International Teachers of Dance Inc. Convention, Texas Association Teachers of Dancing, Dance Theatre USA, Peridance Capezio Center, and Broadway Dance Center in New York City. Dre currently is a principle dancer with Tapestry Dance Company, which is the only full time Professional Tap Dance company in North America. Dre is Artistic Director of The Andrea Torres Dance Company, and since the first production of ‘Outed’ in 2013 the company has been invited to The COOLNY Festival, The Brooklyn Dance Festival, the Dumbo Dance Festival, and Dance to Breathe at the Austin City Music Hall, & Paramount Theater.
Currently Dre is in rehearsals for her latest production called OSCiLLATE, which is being co-choreographed by herself and Artistic Director of Old Kent Road, Avalon Rathgeb in the UK. This show is set to premiere this summer at the renowned Sadler’s Wells in London.
