ESCAPE LONDON – Enjoy a peaceful stay at the stunning historical Billesley Manor Hotel and Spa in Warwickshire
Billesley Manor Hotel and Spa is a leisurely 3-hour drive from London and is set in 11 acres of stunning Warwickshire parkland and only five minutes from Shakespeare’s birthplace Stratford-upon-Avon.
The stunning building is steeped in history, from the time of the Norman Conquest the manor house at Billesley was one of a number of properties belonging to the increasingly influential Trussell family. Foundations of the medieval village of Billesley can still be discerned in the fields to the east of the hotel. There still exists a huge number of original features, from grand fireplaces to seventeenth-century locks. In the Shakespeare suite there is a crawl space above the oak-panelled fireplace, known as a “priest hole”. It has a small slit through so anyone hiding could observe what was going on. There are also records for the church attached to the Manor which dates to the eleventh century. Rumour has it that William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway there in 1582.
As soon as you step into the manor you can enjoy the grandeur from the oak panelled reception desk to the huge fireplace that is situated in the bar. The colours throughout are as grand as the place itself, from navy velvet chairs and chesterfield benches in the dining room to turquoise walls and gold accent mirrors.
Your comfort is paramount, the bed in our room was heavenly and guarantees a good night’s sleep. Fluffy robes are provided with luscious toiletries and complimentary drinks. Our room looked out to the stunning gardens and was tastefully decorated in cream, blue and grey. The shower is created to enjoy and boasts a rainfall shower and single push buttons.
The restaurant which must have been a grand banquet hall is a feast for your eyes, as oak panels cover the walls and paintings of historical guests grown the wood. Sweeping chandeliers set off this stunning room which also boasts well laid tables and plenty of comfortable seating. The food at the restaurant is divine as is the service, we would fully recommend the delicious halibut and the mouth watering Date pudding!
It’s well worth a look around the beautiful grounds from the huge, crafted hedges to the tranquil round fountain. Talking about tranquil, this hotel boats a spa with complimentary ESPA products. Take a swim in the lovely pool, pamper yourself with some spa treatments, work out in the well-equipped gym, or enjoy the sauna and steam room. The drawing room with family games and books on ceiling, with a stunning view to the garden and quirky books hanging from the ceiling.
If you get the chance the pretty city of Stratford-upon-Avon is only 10 miles away and is a feast for your eyes.
