LONDON EVENTS – Canapés, cocktails, flowers and fashion at the Rib Room in Knightbridge
The Rib Room Bar & Restaurant in the heart of Knightsbridge, London will offer guests exclusive evenings with top names from the worlds of fashion, make-up and floristry as part of its Salon Series this autumn. Discover the secret to perfect fitting denim with Australian-born ‘Jean Queen’ Donna Ida Thornton on Tuesday, 30 September; prepare for the party season with make-up guru Daniel Sandler on Tuesday 28 October; and learn how best to dress a festive table with Belgravia’s finest florist, Neill Strain, on Monday, 10 November.
Guests in small groups will glean top tips – in person – from these stellar names during an intimate evening (6.30pm-8.30pm) at The Rib Room Bar, whilst enjoying drinks and canapés at one of London’s most stylish bars, all for £45 per person.
Donna Ida Thornton runs three fashion boutiques, Draycott Avenue in Chelsea, Belgravia in London and Swan Lane in Guildford, where the famous Denim Clinic ensures that every woman can find the perfect pair of traditional or true-waisted jeans, something she struggled to do when she arrived from Sydney in 1999. Donna launched her own range of high-waisted jeans called IDA in SS13 which are a ‘little bit lady, a little bit rock n roll and a lot of chic.’ Donna explains; “I’m inspired by women past and present who all know what a waist is. I look to the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Bridget
Bardot, Katherine Hepburn, Marianne Faithful, Anita Pallenberg and Kate Moss.”
Award-winning British make-up artist Daniel Sandler’s ethos is to ‘be your most beautiful’ and he understands that a woman wants to apply her make-up quickly, achieve great results and have it last throughout the day and night, whatever the occasion. At his Salon Series event Daniel will advise his guests on how they can create key looks for themselves, sharing his expert tips and tricks for the start of the festive season, with its round of cocktail soirées, parties and dinners. Daniel said: “I believe that a woman can look her most beautiful with make-up techniques and shades that bring out her natural beauty. I focus on someone’s assets and emphasise those, so features you’re less happy about aren’t so obvious. It’s a win-win situation.”
Renowned for his dramatic and theatrical style, Neill Strain creates his floral magic for the likes of Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace and Joan Collins, while his floral styling and designs adorn the most exquisite homes and venues in Belgravia and beyond. His evening will fully equip guests with the ideas, skills and confidence to dress a truly fabulous festive table in rich, seasonal colours using natural foliage, berries and glamorous baubles. He said: “I will dress a table for Christmas and share the secrets of my floral couture for elegant entertaining to the highest luxury in what promises to be an evening filled with beauty beyond the imagination!”
Canapés for the events will be created by Head Chef Ian Rudge who carefully selects the best seasonal ingredients to complement the choice of wines and drinks for each event.
Situated on the corner of Sloane Street and Cadogan Place, The Rib Room Bar is within sight of many of Knightsbridge’s chic boutiques and easy to reach from Harvey Nichols and Harrods. Offering over 450 champagnes and wines, and 19 premium gins in addition to iconic cocktails, the Bar provides a suitably elegant setting for Salon Series.
