LONDON EATERIES – British and American burgers go head-to-head at London’s Manhattan Grill in celebration of the 4th of July

As one of London’s finest steakhouses, Manhattan Grill is known for its excellent American and British steaks as well as a relaxing quayside atmosphere. This award-winning restaurant also has a superb selection of wines from across the globe and offers complimentary wine tasting. If wine isn’t your thing, there’s also a great range of delightful cocktails on the menu, which are perfect for those muggy summer evenings in London.

This 4th of July, Chef Damian Trejo, who has cooked for President Barack Obama, has come up with the perfect American burger in celebration of US independence, which consists of succulent USDA beef, streaky smoked bacon, sautéed garlic mushrooms and melted Monterey jack cheese on a sesame seed brioche bun. Standing in opposition to this is the classic British burger, served with Aberdeen Angus beef, juicy gammon steak, fried egg and zingy tomato relish. If you want something a little different, there’s also a tender lamb burger with pickled red onions, coriander and mint yoghurt to enjoy. The main battle will be choosing which delicious burger to eat! But never fear, because these tasty burgers will be available throughout July, meaning you could always come back to try them all!

THE AMERICAN BURGER SMALL

Aside from the burger specials, the Manhattan Grill offers a wonderful range of appetisers to start off your evening right. From their signature seared black pearl scallops, to juicy king prawns in chilli garlic butter as well as a fresh root salad paired with pomegranate and goat’s cheese, there really is something for everyone.

I particularly love the Devonshire pork belly, served with apple puree and mustard cabbage – the tartness of the mustard paired perfectly with the mouth-watering pork.

Along with numerous tasty mains such as the fish of the day, ribs and corn fed chicken, the stars of the show are of course the steaks. Served with any sides you wish, such as sweet potato fries, mac ‘n cheese or tomato salad, the tasty meat on offer at the Manhattan Grill is of the highest quality. Diners can choose form Creekstone Kansas USDA Black Angus or Scottish Aberdeen Angus. There are also then a variety of sauces to pick from, so the combinations are countless and you are certainly spoilt for choice! I went for the New York Strip steak, which was cooked to perfection. I was able to try a number of sauces, though my favourite was the bourbon peppercorn, which was just the right amount of kick to go with the already flavourful meat.
