LONDON EATERIES – Head to Mole in Marylebone for amazing Mexican food, with a twist!
Mole is a brand new Mexican restaurant right in the heart of the West End. One of my favourite places in London and a stones throw from the popular shopping district Oxford Street is St Christopher’s place, a bustling area filled with happy people and an abundance of restaurants and bars. So you can imagine how pleased I am to discover this amazing new gem is set in such a wonderful area.
The restaurant itself has a modern warehouse style and it oozes cool! The walls are bare brick and the front windows move aside to reveal to the bustling street, perfect to enjoy the summer air and of course people watch! The moment you walk in you feel the cool vibe, funky soulful house plays in the background creating an Ibiza beach vibe, intertwined with relaxing Mexican music. Perfect to suit all musical tastes, crystal ball lights hang from the ceiling, giving Mole a romantic feel.

On the other side an open bar invites you to sit, with an abundance of drinks available to wet any pallet and in keeping with the cool theme the bars top shelf is crowned with a row of beautifully painted skulls. It may sound gruesome, but it adds to the ambience of this funky restaurant. Talking to the friendly staff they shared the skills which on further investigation are all carefully decorated in beautiful patterns represent the Mexican tradition of celebrating birth and commiserating death.
To say the cocktail menu is tempting is an understatement. A diverse menu that features Mexican liquors such as Jose Cuervo, 1800 Coconut and Kraken Rum. A delight for a tequila lover like myself, but I am enjoying a dry month, which was almost broken by the tempting cocktail menu. I decided on the Coco Fresco, with 1800 coconut, passion fruit, pineapple juice and agave. I ordered this beautiful drink sans 1800 coconut and the waiter was more than happy to serve the drink virgin style. The cocktail presentation is excellent and had my Taste buds watering just by looking at it! The cocktail was decorated with beautiful flowers and I think I may of died and gone to passion fruit heaven! The fruity drink was tart and the passion fruit juice dominates the drink, perfect for those who just love the taste of this exotic fruit.

The extensive taco list is exciting and far from the usual tacos I have discovered on my worldly travels, they boast enticing combinations with headliners including cactus, shark, oxtail, pulled pork and octopus. The raw bar will also put a smile on any fish lovers face with tuna, sea bass, yellowtail and ceviche all on offer.
We began with guacamole, lime, sea salt and pomegranate. A divine mix with a twist on the traditional guacamole, rich avocado chunks with a burst of pomegranate. The pomegranate adds a special and welcome kick. As our starters arrived we knew the food would be amazing before it even hit our lips, and food presentation was nothing short of excellent. While the almost melt in your mouth mushroom quesadilla was simply divine.

As soon as my guest had a mouthful of the 15 hour braised chipotle short rib many oohs and arrs could be heard across the table. He exclaimed happily that the meat was succulent and fell off the bone. My face was also full of smiles and my tastebuds in heaven, as the beautifully cooked Sea Bass fillets melted in my mouth, while the sauce gave a welcome kick and a burst of flavours on many levels.
When we arrived the waiter said we would enjoy the food and it has to be said, that is an understatement as It is outstanding, I have never tasted Mexican food like it. The waiters are friendly and Mole is an experience that you will happily remember for a long time, I personally can not wait to go back and can not recommend this welcome new London restaurant enough!
