LONDON EATERIES – A touch of old Hollywood glamour at The Prince Alfred in Maida Vale

02

Maida Vale is an upscale residential area that lacks a variety of eateries, so it was a pleasure to find The Prince Albert nestled beside a little road of pretty shops.

The restaurant is separate from the bar and has been recently refurbished. The glass ceiling boasts old fashioned bulbs hanging as chandeliers, which give the beautifully designed room an open feel. My favourite flowers, lilies, decorate the window sills giving a delicate and sweet smell from the moment you enter. Whilst having new decor, with luxurious blue leather seats, the pub manages to keep its old almost old Hollywood style and charm.

The pub had a feeling of elegance and the kitchen is open, which is always reassuring.  As soon as I entered the friendly staff greeted me and happily showed me to my seat.  Downstairs they have turned the cellar into a drinking area, with seating under the arches, which definitely has the cool factor. This stunning secret room was originally used for storing coal. Pass the stylish Prince Alfred graffiti and there are four alcove booths, snug under arches, complete with plush cream seating and retro prints that cover everything from The Beatles to David Bowie. The area, with its fashionable line-lighting and caged wine cabinets, has a very special ambience and makes an ideal venue for either several small parties (6-8 per booth) or one private party for up to 25 people.

I began with the Smoked mackerel salad with horseradish, coriander creme fraiche and grilled bread, they were nice enough to take out the horseradish on my request. The mackerel was well balanced with the salad and welcome crispy bread, plus they created a honey dressing especially for me, which gave it a sweet kick.  For the main I plumped for the sea bass filet, it arrived like the mackerel excellently presented. The Sea bass flakes fell easily off the skin, although it did have a strong fishy smell, the broccoli was crispy and the thick cut chips fluffy.

The atmosphere was buzzing with happy clientele and the service was amazing from start to finish. If you are looking for a fun evening out with friends in lovely and spacious surroundings, why not pop down to the Prince Alfred in Maida Vale.
