ESCAPE LONDON – A perfect spa for a romantic getaway the The Malvern Spa Hotel

The Malvern Spa Hotel is located in the Midlands just outside Worcester, to which the drive from Surrey was incredibly simple. I booked a visit for Monday – Tuesday to celebrate an anniversary with my partner. With current restrictions in place concerning COVID-19, the Hotel did an excellent job of making the booking process easy and providing an excellent service. As we drove into the complex, we were greeted by a large and modern building, with a beautiful glass entrance.

The measurements in place for COVID-19 certainly made us feel safe from arrival until departure. Upon check-in, all guests had to have their temperature checked by the face screening system. We were greeted by an extremely welcoming and professional receptionist, who gave us an in-depth tour of the facilities, specifically outlining the guidelines put in place. Social distancing was evident throughout the duration of the trip, with a one-way system in operation across the premises, clear signage located on the floors and walls. Masks had to be worn when walking around but were not needed in the pool area or restaurants which helped guests relax. There was a restricted number of guests allowed in all areas specifically the steam room and sauna which had to be booked in advance, which was on a first come first serve basis, but this wasn’t a problem. The house keeping team were working to a new enhanced sanitizing schedule with the cleaning of key touch points every thirty minutes. Sanitizer stations are located at all entrances and exits with clear air units installed to eliminate air born and surface bacteria. All staff were wearing PPE and risk assessments have been undertaken in line with government guidance.

There was an exceptional hydrotherapy pool and terrace area, with various areas for seating including egg swing chairs. Having visited in November the terrace was of little use but would be perfect if you were to visit in the warmer months. The outdoor pool was heated to a perfect temperature, with various water feature and jacuzzi seating areas which allow guests to spread out. The pool was surrounded by high walls, blocking out any sight or sounds from the surrounding area. There was various steam rooms and saunas available, including a crystal steam room which features a giant crystal centre piece, infused with essential oils that fill the air with relaxing aromas. There is a foot spa with enough space for 2 people due to social distancing and a bucket drench shower which we found was certainly a quick way to cool down. The gym was well equipped with various cardio and strength machines for both members and guests to use. The changing rooms were incredibly spacious, with plenty of lockers and mirror space. There was plenty of showers which were large in size, with a powerful water pressure.

The Spa itself contained a water fountain center piece where we were seated before our treatments. Therapists were both friendly and professional, tailoring the treatment to individual needs. There was a broad selection of treatments and products available, to which we were recommended what would work best for our skin type. Myself and my partner both had a back massage and facial booked for the afternoon, which took place within a candle lit room with tranquil music. Treatments were on time, and although we was in separate rooms due to COVID, we were taken through at the same time which was perfect. The massage lasted for half an hour which was the perfect amount of time as we felt any tensions and knots had been removed, before turning over for our facials. This included a cleanse, exfoliation, massage and moisturizer which left our skin glowing. Following treatments, we were directed through to the beautifully designed relaxation room, which was candle lit with hanging drapes and both single and double beds.

The restaurant has a simple layout with modern décor. Staff were extremely welcoming and attentive to all guests, always checking up on empty glasses and offering us drinks and further assistance. There was an extensive evening menu, to which each course we had could not be faulted. The baked camembert was cooked to perfection, with red onion marmalade which added the most incredible flavors. The mushroom tagliatelle melted in my mouth, it was the best I have ever tasted. On the other hand, breakfast was more limited and slightly simpler in comparison to the evening. Staff was still incredibly helpful and polite, they really couldn’t do enough for us.

On walking to our room, the décor was simple yet elegant. We were both excited to enter our room, with impressions already being high from seeing the rest of the hotel. The room did not disappoint, it was decorated with a beautiful mix of blues, with soft white bedding and some silver mirror bed side tables. The room also included a desk, double wardrobe, TV and and a modern bathroom. The bathroom was a gorgeous cream marble with a bath and powerful shower head. Elemis products were provided complimentary, along with extremely soft dressing gowns and towels which could be changed upon request.

This was the perfect spa for a romantic getaway in an area of the UK we had never visited. It would even be ideal for a girlie getaway as there was a variety of guests visiting for different occasions. There was lovely background music throughout the hotel, creating a perfect ambience for guests. Our stay was made by the extremely hospitable and friendly staff throughout the hotel, from cleaners to the frontline employees, we were made to feel welcome. The treatments were well priced and up to a fantastic standard, with therapists going above and beyond to tailor to individual requests. Facilities were very well kept and very picturesque, we would certainly return for another visit. The Malvern Hotel provides first class facilities with a first class service, a perfect way to treat yourself after the year of lockdown!
