BEAUTY – Strip – When Legs & Chocolate come together.

On a rainy, grey summer’s day in London, I get invited to go and get my legs waxed. Hmm, I’m thinking will that perhaps cheer me up? Or will it just remind me of the holiday I HAVEN’T booked? But as I’ve heard that STRIP is the UK’s foremost specialist waxing salon, of course, I won’t say no.

I decide to visit their newest branch in Upper Street, Islington so in the rain, I’m rushing into a salon bright, funky yet elegant filled with some fantastic underwear, sleepwear, sports gear and of course some unique skin/ hair removal products. It is a quiet Friday afternoon so I get almost instantly shown to the treatment room of which there are five, however, I can see a comfortable waiting area tucked into a corner- we are talking of an elegant Chester sofa in a mustard colour, chandelier, mauve walls- all very richly flamboyant and fun.

Alice takes me into yet another grand looking treatment room for my half leg waxing experience. Funky music playing and it does feel a bit like a girl’s night in. Great for a rainy Friday on my own. Now I’d love a glass of champagne! Here’s the deal. I’m not a very hairy person ( thank you genes) and my hairs are weird and hard to wax off- to be honest, it has always been a bit tricky as whatever that’s there still needs to go! I’m getting the chocolate treatment apparently Alice tells me. And rightly so I am getting what can only be described as chocolate fondue laid on my pins. Honestly, I want to lick my legs. Alice admits my little hairs are a bit hard to get rid off. At this stage, I don’t really care as my eyes are transfixed on the chocolate…It smells divine too.

I must say Alice did a fantastic (albeit hard?!) job as I’m left with some beautifully smooth legs. She really did take her time with me and didn’t make me feel awkward at all, as I usually do with my weird hairs. And it was virtually PAINFREE. You cannot fault this queen of leg wax’s. And I feel confident that the other more intimate waxes including some very specific hair treatments (didn’t even know some of these existed?!) will be equally a great, fun but also highly skilled experiences. Time to get my legs out whether its in rainy London or beachin’ in the Med..they need to be seen (and touched!) after this.
